Welcome to BIOL 434 and BIOL 509!

This is the canvas page for BIOL 434 and BIOL 509, for Spring 2022. These two courses meet together.

We will meet online only  until Feb 7, as is current UBC policy.

After Feb 7, we will meet in FNH 50.  I'm going to try to record lectures (and also hopefully have them live on Zoom). Please do not come to class physically if you are feeling ill or have been recently exposed to COVID.

Most of the background information for this course is available at its web-page. (It's slightly outdated, because I cannot access the underlying html file to edit at the moment.) Please look there for practicalities, old exams, office hours, etc.

The overheads that I will use during class are available for download ahead of time in PDF form. The first set of overheads starts with practical info about the course, including grading breakdown.

The textbook for the course is a freely available book by Professor Graham Coop. The version I'll refer to in class is available here. For the most recent version, click the "Download" button from this github site. Links to an external site.

The midterm will be in class on March 1 (date was determined by class vote). There are old midterms on the course website for inspiration and practice.

Office hours: After class; also Mondays 2:30-3:30 on Zoom.
