Written Assignment Guidelines

Overview

There will be three substantial written assignments ("HWs") over the term. Their purpose is to give you large complex problems in which to exercise your reasoning skills.  You will have ~1-2 weeks to complete each assignment, so budget your time carefully.  Late submissions will not be accepted.

PrairieLearn

Assignments will be distributed via PrairieLearn, an online assessment delivery tool.

Collaboration

You are encouraged and welcome to work with a partner on all assignments. Each person in the partnership should separately complete the exercises on PrairieLearn.

Marking

For details on the weight of written assignments, see the Course Guide

As a rule of thumb,

  • A solution to a question that is correct, and complete will receive full marks.

  • Every entry that you specify in prairielearn is worth approximately the same as every other entry for a question.

  • The weight of each question is specified on the assessment page, with the list of questions.

This marking scheme reflects our intent for you to learn the key concepts and techniques underlying computation, determine where they apply, and apply them correctly to interesting problems.

**Reporting marking issues**

If you believe that PrairieLearn auto-graded an answer your submitted incorrectly, then:

  • Show your answer to a course staff member during a help session (office hours)
  • If the staff member agrees that PrairieLearn has potentially erroneously marked your answer, then submit a an error report using PrairieLearn. The error reporting button is on the right side of the question view:
