Introduction to Module 2

Teaching online requires different skills, strategies and tools than teaching in a classroom. Success in online teaching is related to how present and engaged the instructor is in the course. Assessment— that is, measuring or evaluating student learning—is an essential component of a course. Assessment allows instructors to determine whether students are achieving learning goals and whether instructional methods are effective.

In this module, you will learn a range of online teaching practices that have been derived from both research and experience, including how to: provide feedback online, use rubrics, encourage academic integrity in online assessments, and grade assignments and quizzes in Canvas. To help you succeed in teaching your course online, we provide you with practical tips and resources that include what to do during the first week of classes as well as throughout the term.
