Welcome to your ISW
Welcome to the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW),
We are Silvia Bartolic and Judy Chan, your ISW facilitators. We will be working with you and support your learning journey in the next few weeks. We will start here in the virtual online learning space in Canvas; we will meet once on May 26 via Zoom; and we will spend three days in-person on June 6, 7, and 9.
The goals of this asynchronous course on Canvas are to help us build our learning community and your personal learning path. Please note, these Canvas modules are self-sufficient and we plan to build upon your learning here when we meet in-person.
Completion of these modules is an integral part of your ISW and a condition for completion. Based on previous participants, we estimate that you will need approximately 4-6 hours to complete the modules. Please note, this time is part of the overall 24 hours.
If you click the “home” button will return you to the modules view where you can find all modules. You will learn more about this ISW in the first module “about” and see the schedule. And you will start building community in the second module “learning community” where you will introduce yourself, share your goals, expectations and group guidelines. Starting from Module 1: Lesson Basics – Learning Objective, the course is designed as a learning path for you to follow by clicking the “next” button. Each module is set up similarly in that there is an overview, objectives and a few reflective questions. And the pages themselves contain learning and different interactives for you to check your understanding. Each module builds upon the previous and completing one module will unlock the next. If you want to take a break and return later, you will see checkmarks where you have left off.
As you work through the modules, you will be prompted to apply your learning by starting to design your first ISW mini-lesson. The lesson basics module “mini-lesson cycles” at the very bottom of the page is available throughout the course as some of you might prefer to work with different lesson planning models in this process.
We wish you a great learning experience and see you online via the online discussion and then on Zoom on May 26.
Silvia and Judy
