How the ocean economy can fight plastic pollutionPhoto: Stefan Ranstrand

Hello and welcome to my ePortfolio! Here you’ll find a compilation of my assignments and reflections throughout the term, which detail my learning of ocean conservation. I hope you enjoy following along with my journey through BIOL 420!

A little bit more about me: my name is Theresa and I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. My favourite childhood memories include spending weekends at the Vancouver Aquarium and Science World which is where I believe my love for the ocean and science originated. My favourite marine mammals are beluga whales because I've loved watching them at the aquarium ever since I was young. To bring things full circle, I am an oceanography and biology major. When I'm not in school, I love to travel. My favourite country of all time is Italy because I LOVE pizza and gelato! The number one travel destination on my bucket list is Antarctica because I want to see the penguins and blood falls but it turns out getting there is quite expensive so I'm working on it! Finally, I love a good fun fact! Did you know that more artifacts and remnants of history are in the ocean than in all of the world’s museums combined? (Source: National Geographic Kids)

Blood falls in Antarctica are a scientific phenomenon. Under the glacier lies a subglacial lake
and a complex network of subglacial rivers, all filled with a brine high in iron. (Badgeley et al., 2017)
