On this last page, I will provide you with a list of things to consider before going out for your run.

1. Is it sunny out?

  • If so, how hot is it?
  • Will you need to apply sunscreen?
  • How much will you have to maintain your hydration?

2. Is it cold out?

  • If so, how cold is it?
  • Is there a chance that you could encounter ice?
  • How many layers will you need to wear?
  • Is it raining?

3. What is the air quality like?

  • Have there been wildfires near your location recently?
  • Is the air visibly affected by smoke?
  • What is the air quality health index number at?

In general, if it is icy outside or if there is a chance of icing on roads, sidewalks, or paths, I would advise not going. Hot and cold weather on the other hand can be dealt with quite easily (extra layers, sun screen, rain jackets, remaining hydrated, etc.). I would also not advise going for your run if the air quality health index number is a 4 or greater, as this can affect your respiratory health. Instead, on icy or smoky days, you can go to the gym and use a treadmill to get your cardio exercise.
