Being prepared and having the proper equipment is crucial to having a safe snorkeling experience and can transform a semi-enjoyable trip to a very enjoyable one! Below is a checklist that helps you decide whether you are all on board before heading out to the waters:

Have you checked the weather resources to make sure the weather is suitable for snorkeling?

  • If the weather forecast is expecting strong winds(>20 knots), or breaking waves, you should postpone your trip.
  • If there is a weather warning that alarms the possibility of a storm, you should cancel your trip.
  • You should also keep in mind the amount of cloud cover and precipitation expected, along with the temperature range to ensure a pleasant experience.

OK~ weather is looking good, but have you packed all of the necessary equipment? Here's a quick list:

Mask – Shatterproof glass to withstand pressure of water.

Fins – provides reasonable amount of flex and stiff around the foot.

Snorkel – Medium length is recommended as it makes breathing easier. A long snorkel will make it difficult to breath in.

Snorkeling Wet Suit (optional)– a suit with neoprene material keeping you warm in cold waters and protecting you from the sun.
