Astrophotography is a sub-genre of photography, in which people take photographs of astronomical objects, celestial events, and more generally the night sky as a whole. Of course, astrophotography is an outdoor activity that is highly dependent on the weather and time of the day. Astrophotography can only occur at night and requires a clear sky.

Through use of long exposure photography techniques, photographers are able to capture images of objects (stars, nebulae and galaxies) that are normally invisible to the eye. Long exposure photography allows the camera sensor or film to capture a greater number of photons and reveal faint details that are not visible to the unaided eye.
