Why Hiking?

As with all types of physical activities, hiking has the benefit of reducing stress levels and maintaining a healthy and fit body. This was initially why I decided to make them a frequent part of my life. I am in no way, shape, or form a professional hiker but I think I can provide some pointers to beginners like myself.

My name is Baban Mokha. As a university student it is very easy for me to get into the same daily routine. Hiking for me is an activity that allows me to exert energy on things other than school. Living in BC there are so many places to visit that connect us back to nature and allow us to observe the ecosystems around us. I think hiking is a wonderful activity that allows me to go at my own pace while taking in the surroundings.

It is important to inform ourselves of the weather hazards associated with hiking to ensure our safety. This was a lesson I learned on one of my hikes. The weather forecast had stated it would be a cloudy day and mid way up, there was a downpour. I ended up having a bad fall over the muddy ground, somehow I survived with only a broken finger.

The picture below is of my first hike two years ago. I’m sure you are able to tell much of a novice I was/am. I should have known wearing my nike air force 1s to a hike was not a good idea. I probably should have also brought a water bottle.
