Polling in Zoom
Zoom supports polling during a live session. You can create single or multiple choice polling questions for your attendees to respond to. Later, you can download a report of the poll results.

Enabling Polling in the Zoom Web Portal
- Log into zoom.us Links to an external site. (you can sign in at https://zoom.us/signin Links to an external site.)
- On the left side of the page that opens, click Settings.
- Click on In Meeting (Basic) and scroll down to find the Polling section.
- To the right of Polling, click to move the toggle right (turn it from grey to blue).
Creating a Poll in the Zoom Web Portal
- Log into zoom.us Links to an external site. (you can sign in at https://zoom.us/signin Links to an external site.)
- On the left side of the page that opens, click Meetings.
- Click on the name of your scheduled meeting.
- On the meeting management page, scroll to the bottom to find the Poll section. Click Add.
- Enter a title for your poll.
- (Optional) If you would like to keep the participant information anonymous in your poll reports, click the box next to Anonymous.
- Type in your first polling question.
- Select whether you would like participants to select just one answer, or have the option to select multiple answers.
- Type in all possible poll answers.
- If you would like to add more questions to your poll, click +Add a Question.
- Click Save when you are finished.
- Repeat from step 4 to create multiple polls for your meeting. You can create up to 25 polls for a single meeting.
Creating a Poll in Excel
- In your Canvas course menu, click on the Zoom link.
- On the Upcoming Meetings tab, click on the name of your meeting.
- On the meeting page, scroll to the bottom to find the Poll section. Click on the Download a CSV Template link.
- A file with the name poll template.csv will download to your computer. Open this file in Excel and edit it to add multiple polls (up to 25). Each poll can have multiple questions, as well.
- Leave Row 1 with the default text (headers).
- The title of each poll must be on it's own row in column A (shown here in rows 2 and 16) - no text in any other columns on that row.
- Each poll question is on the row in column B either directly below the poll title (shown here in column B, rows 3 and 17) or two rows below the last answer for the previous question (shown here in column B, rows 11 and 27).
- The question type is in the same row as the question name, in column C.
Question type can either be single with only one selectable answer, or multiple for which more than one answer can be selected. - The possible answers for each question are each in their own row in column D, starting on the row immediately below the question name.

- Save the the file as a .csv. You can access a copy of the sample shown here: poll_template_sample.csv Download poll_template_sample.csv
- Back on your Canvas Zoom meeting page (where you left off in step 3 above), click on Import CSV. Select the saved CSV file to upload to your meeting.
Launching a Poll
- In your Zoom meeting that has Polling enabled, click Polls in the meeting controls.
- If you have set up multiple polls for your meeting, you can select which poll to launch by clicking on the ˅ (down arrow) next to the first Poll name.
- Select the poll to launch from the dropdown menu. You will see a preview of your poll questions and answers before the attendees see them.
- After selecting the poll, click on the Launch Polling button to share the poll with your attendees.
- The participants will be prompted to answer the polling questions. The host will see the results live, as shown below, with a timer indicating how long the participants have viewed the poll for. When you would like to stop the poll, click on the End Polling button.
- If you would like to share the results to the participants, click Share Results.
- Participants will see the results of the polling questions. Click Stop Share Results to stop sharing.
Downloading Poll Results
- Log into zoom.us Links to an external site. (you can sign in at https://zoom.us/signin Links to an external site.)
- On the left side of the page, click Reports.
- On the Usage Reports page, click Meeting.
- Next to Report Type, select Poll Report.
- Enter a time range that includes your completed meeting where you held polling.
- Click on the Search button. A list of past meetings will display below.
- Next to the meeting where you held polling, click the Generate link.
- A pop-up window will appear. Leave All Registrants selected, and click Continue.
- The Report Queue page will appear with a list of reports you have generated. Find your meeting with Report Type "Poll Report" and click on the Download link.
- A CSV file with the poll results will be downloaded to your computer. Open the CSV file in Excel to view the results.
