Before Starting Your Trip, You SHOULD:

  • Check the condition of the aircraft: make sure that the radar is working properly on the aircraft. Radar is the primary tool used by pilots during flying to check weather conditions of the route.
  • Make sure the weather is alright at the departure and destination airport: visibility need to be good enough for planes to take off and to land. Ensure that no intense obscurations occuring at the airports, such as heavy snowfall or volcanic ash.
  • Check the weather of the planned route. Make sure that no weather hazards are on route. If thunderstorms are detected by weather forecast, plan another route in order to arrive at the destination safely or cancel the flight plan if needed.
  • Make sure that the assigned attitude has low water concentration, because high water concentration and below-freezing temperature can cause supercooled droplets to form, and icing may eventually freeze on aircrafts.
  • Should check if the radio is working properly. Radio is an important communication device for contacting departure and destination airports. Pilots can always contact the departure and destination airports about current weather condition at the airports, and may also ask for assistance during emergency.
