  • Smooth rowing or a tumbly ride? Make sure to take a look on how the waters will look like along your route. Don't head out to the waters if strong winds/waves are expected or it's going to get extremely foggy.
If winds speed are above 20 knots DO NOT paddle.
If river speeds are greater than 3 feet per second DO NOT paddle.
  • Know whether the temperatures are going to rise or fall. Dress appropriately!
Don't forget to wear sunscreen if you're expecting to see some sun along your route. If it's going to be windy or raining, wear a hoodie and put on that windcheater for some warmth.
  • Paddling in the dark? Have sufficient lights on your boat for both the front and back.
  • You never know where the wind might take you. In this case the waves. So do not forget those life jackets and the first aid kits!
  • Let your friends and family know how your journey is going. Have at least two working cell phones on your boat! For extra safety, give each a member whistle to hang around their necks or tie on their wrists.
  • Keep some water. Pack some snacks.
  • Before you finally hop onto that boat make sure to check your equipment (paddles, boat, life jackets) for any damage. DO NOT set sail with faulty equipments!
