Originated in Ancient China, Dragon Boating has a long history or religious and traditional significance. Traditional dragon boat racing, in China, coincides with the 5th day of the 5th Chinese lunar month. Another ritual called Awakening of the Dragon involves a Daoist priest dotting the bulging eyes of the carved dragon head attached to the boat. Doing so symbolizes the dragon ending its slumber and re-energizing its spirit.

Now Dragon Boat is an internationally recognized sport and typically famous in Canada!

The sport involves a team of 20-22 people who paddle (not row) their way through the tracks of water. The team includes a drummer, paddlers and a steerer. This activity is practiced both professionally and for leisure purposes!
