Hazard #2. The Rain

One of the most common weather occurrence is rain, something that is even sung about in disdain. I remember when I would sit beside the window as a child, watching the droplets go by, and wish the sun would come out and make the day better again. The biggest concern for rain is that the court would become extremely slippery, and sometimes could cause head injuries or more. If played on grass, badminton could also be potentially dangerous during the muddy puddles. Power comes in the legs, so if there's no strong ground to hold the leg, you can easily slip and hurt various parts of your body.  When I tried playing badminton in the rain, the rain drops would also damage the racket (rust may occur) and also change the route of the birdie. Alongside with the dangers of slipping, staying out too long during the rain could also expose you to hypothermia or getting sick. When I was younger, my mother would never let me play outside in the rain in fear of "getting cold equates to sickness". Make sure that if you plan to go out, check the weather forecast and if there is a potential for rainfall to happen, and always keep yourself warm.
