How does it work?

GeocachingLinks to an external site. is worldwide treasure-hunt. There are millions of hidden treasures or 'caches' hidden nearly everywhere by other treasure-hunters just like you. Every cache includes small knick-knacks left by previous Geocachers as well as a logbook. After finding a cache, you can add your name to the logbook and record your successful treasure hunt on the Geocache app. You may take a knick-knack and/or add a treasure of your own. Caches are then returned to their original location for the next treasure-hunters to discover.

Caches may be hidden in dangerous locations, or (for most casual treasure-hunters) they may lead you to a new part of your city you have never been before. Often, every cache has a story or joke behind it, so it is an excellent way to learn about the place you live and engage with others in your community!

Why you should Geocache:

  • For the thrill of adventure!
  • To bond with friends and members of your community
  • To explore and learn more about where you are

I started geocaching with my brother after the initial COVID-19 lockdown. It was an excellent way for us to conquer our boredom and get out of the house. For some reason, he is always the one who finds the caches...  :(

How do I get started?

All you need to start is your phone and the proper preparation.

  1. Download the Geocache app.
