Could December become the highest grossing month since domestic theaters reopened from the pandemic? We’ve reached the end of another calendar year, and while things do feel a bit more normal than they did last December, there’s another COVID-19 variant spreading, so there’s really no way to tell how everything is going to shake out. That said, we have some exciting titles on the way for the holiday season, ranging from superhero action to sci-fi satire and even a musical to tie everything together. Read on to find out what moviegoers are most looking forward to seeing in December.

Here are some of the biggest feature releases arriving in theaters December 2021.

DON'T LOOK UP (2021)

Back in 2015, writer-director Adam McKay decided he wanted to take a little bit of a turn away from comedies like Anchorman, Step Brothers, and The Other Guys, pivoting instead to pitch black satire in The Big Short and Vice. He continues that trajectory with Don’t Look Up ganzer film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence as a pair of astronomers who discover a comet headed straight for Earth and attempt to warn the world, only to be met with varying degrees of incompetence or indifference. This one only narrowly edged out the two films below it in our polls, but with names like Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Timothée Chalamet, and Cate Blanchett on the marquee, it deserves to be on this list due to its cast alone.

WEST SIDE STORY (2021)

The final entry on our list gives us the opportunity to pay our respects to theater legend Stephen Sondheim, who sadly passed away at the age of 91 on November 26. West Side Story ganzer film was the first Broadway musical Sondheim wrote, so it’s fitting that it now also becomes the first musical film of Steven Spielberg’s career. So far, the film has gotten rave reviews from critics, and it will no doubt serve as a worthy tribute to Sondheim’s indelible work.

SPIRITWALKER (2021)

'Spiritwalker' 유체이탈자 다시보기 is a 2021 Mystery movie directed by Lee Seung-chul and starring by Yoon Kye-sang, Park Yong-woo. A man loses his memory and wakes up in a new body every 12 hours, each time forced to discover who he is anew. This condition begins when he wakes up in the middle of a car crash, in the body of someone he doesn't recognize, without any knowledge of who he is. He begins to realize that his spirit is stuck to a different body and moves every 12 hours. In his desperate search to find himself, he comes across a woman who claims to recognize him. As he bores deeper into the mystery, he comes across a secretive organization that appears to be chasing him. Before it’s too late, he must find a way back into his own body. 

ENCANTO (2021)

"Encanto" 엔칸토 다시보기 is a 2021 Adventure movie directed by Shannon Mills and starring by Stephanie Beatriz, John Leguizamo. The tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family's last hope.

NOTHING SERIOUS (2021)

"Nothing Serious" is a 2021 Romance movie directed by Jeong Ga-young and starring by Jeon Jong-seo, Son Suk-ku. Woo Ri is a 33-year-old single man. He is a rookie reporter and he writes a sex column, although he wants to become a novelist. Woo Ri hates being lonely, but he is not very good with romantic relationships. Ja Young is a 29-year-old single woman. She has a daring personality. Ja Young strives to become a mature 30-year-old woman, but she has experienced failures and is mired in debt.
