Wind

One of the most common hazards when playing volleyball is wind. As the ocean warms at a slower pace than the surrounding sand (which absorbs heat readily), it becomes a high pressure zone. This results in a "land breeze" during the day, meaning that the hotter from the land moves towards the cooler air from the ocean. Wind of all speeds can greatly affect beach volleyball play and in some cases, it can become a huge safety hazard. It becomes increasingly more difficult to play the stronger the wind is; winds can blow the ball in unexpected directions and make passing and spiking harder as you will have to take into account where the wind will place the ball. When winds exceed a certain speed, it can render beach volleyball nearly unplayable.

As for hazards, wind can stir up sand which can get in players eyes and cause injury. In more extreme cases, it result in major injury due to being caught in large sand devils, which are essentially whirlwinds with sand in them.
