Strong Winds
Sudden strong winds can create wave disturbances and lead to the capsizing of the boat. This situation becomes riskier in shallow waters as waves can build quickly to put more pressure on the boat.  Don't forget to take a look at the weather prediction charts before you head out into the waters!

Thunderstorms
Continuous strong winds can lead to a thunderstorm. One of the major risks associated with thunderstorms is lightning. If the lightning falls on your sailing vessel it can spark a fire specially when it comes in contact with any electronic/metal devices on your boat. In the midst of a thunderstorm, it also becomes very risky to jump into the water as the bodies are protruded during a storm. Tide is high and rough and water acts a good conductor of electricity, making you more vulnerable to an electric shock from lightning. Make sure you check the weather forecast beforehand and have all the necessary emergency equipment with you!

UV Exposure
While boating on a sunny day can sound fun and relaxing, make sure you've treated your skin and eyes to stay protected from the harmful ultraviolet rays. The effects can range from a minor tan to severe sun burns, rashes and allergies. The severity of these effects may vary from person to person and skin type and can be aggravated when skin comes in contact with the salt water. Make sure you're prepared!
